How long does it take to get alarm monitoring set up?

Adding monitoring to a suitable existing alarm is often a single short visit to fit and register a communicator, sometimes within a week or two of the survey. A new system takes longer, and if you need police response, the URN application adds time on top — that part depends on your police force, not your installer.

The sequence is survey, quote, install or takeover inspection, ARC registration and testing, then URN application if police response is wanted.

The URN step is the least predictable, because it sits with the force. Ask your installer what they are currently seeing for your area rather than accepting a general figure.

Monitoring is live from the point the system is registered and tested with the ARC, so you are not unprotected while waiting for a URN — you simply have keyholder escalation rather than police response until it is issued.

Do not let urgency push you into signing at the survey. A day spent checking the register and reading the contract terms is cheap compared with a three-year auto-renewing agreement.
